Stéphane's wish to go to the World Transplant Games

Stéphane, 15, is a teenager from Ottawa who received a heart transplant. His wish was to go to the World Transplant Games in Durban, South Africa and compete as an athlete.

With some very hard work, the staff at Make-A-Wish made arrangements for Stéphane’s wish to become a reality.

The anticipation of his wish motivated Stéphane to focus on preparation for the Games, and training frequently helped improve his overall health.

Stéphane's mother, Lynn, noted that the opening ceremonies were the highlight of the trip for her. They symbolized the culmination and celebration of all of the hard work that these unique athletes have put into getting to the games.

For Stéphane, his wish meant not only that he would be able to compete in high-level sports, but also the opportunity to meet other people who have been through similar battles and celebrate their victories in and out of sports competition.

Stéphane's hard work and determination paid off; he won a silver medal in the high jump competition!

Stéphane told us that this was the best trip of his life, and soon after arriving back he had already started saving his money for next year's World Transplant Games.
