Troy's wish to go to Disney World

Troy, 12, Leukemia, wished to go to Walt Disney World. When we first met him and his family, Troy had been battling pneumonia, which is especially challenging in his already weakened condition. Despite feeling ill, he was very excited about his wish trip and started counting down the days until they could leave.

Troy and his brothers had never been to Walt Disney World and they could hardly wait! They excitedly poured over the brochures planning what adventures they would have on their trip.

When the day finally arrived, Troy and his family traveled to Orlando and had a fantastic week-long adventure full of rides, crazy weather and fun!

They stayed at the Give Kids the World Village, and one of the highlights for Troy was that he got to place a gold star with his name on it on the ceiling. He said he felt good knowing that his star will always be there. Troy's mom felt that the community at the park was amazing and felt a profound connection with the other Make-A-Wish families they met in the Village. The entire family was overwhelmed by the kindness of the staff and volunteers at GKTW and was moved by the number of stars already placed to recognize wish children.

There were lots of fun places for Troy to visit including Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Universal Studios, and Legoland. Troy and his family particularly enjoyed the fireworks display at the Magic Kingdom. During the introduction of the show, Jiminy Cricket talked about the magic of wishes and Troy’s mother was overcome with gratitude and emotion during this wonderful night.

There was a ferocious storm in Florida during their trip, but it didn't stop Troy and his family from having a great time. Once the weather settled, they set off for an afternoon at Sea World where Troy got to interact with dolphins. They also managed to squeeze in a visit to Gatorland where Troy’s step-father posed for photos with a snake wrapped around his neck.

With a little help from his brother, Troy summed up his wish experience as, “Fantastico!” Troy and his whole family wish to say a massive thank you to Give Kids the World Resort, Walt Disney World® Resorts, and Make-A-Wish® Eastern Ontario for making Troy’s wish come true.
